B.A. Krukoff led an enormously interesting life. A pioneering economic botanist—and some say a genius—Krukoff was a man addicted to organization whose prized possessions were his files on all his activities. Needless to say, this treasure trove of information was extremely valuable when it came time to write his biography. The volume is divided into five sections: Krukoff's early life; employment from 1928-1937; several drug-plant projects with Merck and his work with the Chicle Development Company; his life as a manager of plantations in Central America and his philanthropic contributions to botanical institutions. Included are descriptions of numerous expeditions to Amazonia and elsewhere.
Leslie R. Landrum was born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1946. He obtained his B.S. degree in forest botany in 1969 from the New York State College of Forestry at Syracuse, New York. He then went to the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he was a student of Dr. Rogers McVaugh, receiving his Ph.D. degree in 1980. From 1980 to 1983 he was B. A. Krukoff Research Associate at the New York Botanical Garden. In 1983 he went to the California Academy of Sciences as Tilton Fellow and there continues his research on the Myrtaceae.
