Leaf and reproductive flushing events within a high density Cycas micronesica K.D.Hill population in northwestern Guam were monitored from 2002 to 2005. These were the three years prior to the invasions of Aulacaspis yasumatsui Takagi and Chilades pandava Horsfield into this habitat. Male strobilus, female strobilus, and leaf emergence events occurred every month of the year. April exhibited the greatest pulse of male and female reproductive events. August exhibited the highest incidence of vegetative flush events. The heterogeneous frequency for episodic growth events of individual plants produced an overall mean of 9.5 months between successive male and 13.6 months between successive female reproductive events.
Keywords: flushing, phenology, synchrony
