Michael A. Vincent is curator of the herbarium at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. His research interests include taxonomic studies of the incredibly important plant family Fabaceae (the bean family) worldwide, especially Trifolieae and the genus Trifolium; distribution and spread of native and naturalized plants in North America, especially plants escaping from horticulture; floristics of Belize savannahs; and floristics of the Bahamas, where he and colleagues are working toward a new Flora of the Bahama Archipelago. He is on the Board of Directors of the Flora of North America Association, and is Taxon Editor for the Fabaceae in the Flora of North America North of Mexico, which will be treated in volumes 10 and 11 of this important publication; he is also chair of the Ohio Flora Project and has served for several decades as a member of the Endangered Species Advisory Committee for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. He is member of many botanical and mycological societies, including the Botanical Society of America, the American Society of Plant Taxonomists, the Mycological Society of America, and the Southern Appalachian Botanical Society. In his spare time, he enjoys the companionship of his family, especially the grandchildren, and his chief hobby, philately.
